This is a volume of recital pieces, not always by composers born in France, but certainly by composers who display strong French influence in their music. Three of the composers represented here were also flute players, and their music gives us a valuable insight into the evident capabilities of the flautists living more than a hundred years ago.

SONATA IN C MINOR FOR 3 FLUTES

(arranged from the Sonata in G Minor, BWV 1020):

Bach's Sonata in G Minor is a trio for flute with the right and left hands of the keyboard that lends itself to transcription for three flutes. I have shared the parts equally amongst the three players to make the music fun for all of the performers, and I have transposed the work up to C Minor to make the best use of the extended range of the modern flute.
